DESCRIPTION

According to recent statistics, children aged between one and five years comprise the largest portion of Malawians, while 84% of the population lives in rural areas. (www.nationmaster.com / malawi-population). However in these areas, preschools are very scarce and most children remain idle until they reach the age to attend primary school. According to UNESCO Malawi, the teacher-student ratio is 63:1 and in urban areas and a teacher works with an average of 100 students per class.

A report on the development of the United Nations dating from 2009, mentions that the literacy rate of Malawi's population was only 64.1%. Education for girls is considered as a luxury, often forcing them into early marriages. As a developing country, the government has big problems providing educational materials to all primary schools.
